Freelancing can feel like a whirlwind—endless projects, unpredictable income, and no clear way to track progress.

My husband, Keegan, built a thriving solo business, but his success felt abstract, buried under website tables, email invoices, and ad hoc notes—he had no idea how much money he was actually making each month. So as a wedding gift, I built him something better: a (semi)automated analytics dashboard to bring his business into focus.

Web Bae LLC has taken off, but like many freelancers, Keegan lacked a clear way to track his progress across multiple income streams. Success felt real, but measuring it was messy. His business is nontraditional, so the metrics had to be, too.

📈 BUSINESS INSIGHTS

Organizing these numbers took time and iteration. Web Bae’s revenue falls into three main buckets: 1) Services, where time is directly traded for money; 2) Products, including apps and courses; 3) Content, where educational material drives indirect revenue through ads and affiliate links.

📊 TECH

Built in Google Suite, using Google Apps Script API to integrate Forms with Sheets and visualizations. Revenue from more than a dozen sources, including Stripe, Partnerstack, and YouTube is inputted at the end of each month.

🎨 DESIGN

Numbers can be overwhelming, so simplicity was key. Sparklines highlight audience growth over time, stacked bars break down revenue streams, and tables provide a deeper look at specific substreams.

What started as a quick-build became a tool for clarity, turning freelance chaos into something Keegan could see.

Jan 2025 Update! Keegan started a full-time role.

His business is still running (as a side hobby) and the dash will keep updating.
